It is an exciting time to join the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia to perform studies on malaria elimination. The missions of the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia are public health expertise, operational research and training. For 65 years, its research and expert activities have focused on infectious diseases: malaria, dengue, HIV, tuberculosis, Influenza virus, encephalitis virus and rabies. Our skills involve surveillance, diagnosis, drug resistances, mechanisms of emergence, genetics and genomics, risk measurement and control.

Join the Epidemiology Unit team of the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia on a unique Malaria Elimination operational research project inside Cambodian forests!
In Cambodia, and South East Asia in general, malaria is mostly transmitted inside forests and malaria elimination is a top priority because of widespread antimalarial drug resistance. Our research will contribute to one of the major public health challenges of the coming decade: malaria elimination!

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow/Epidemiologist within the Epidemiology Unit of the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia (IPC) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
This position will be responsible for the primary effectiveness analysis of a large and ambitious Global Fund supported malaria elimination project inside Cambodian forests. The fellow will also ensure the progress of this study in collaboration with the project team and data managers. Opportunities for additional modeling or analytical work may be available depending on the interests of the fellow.

Missions

The fellow will work under the head of Epidemiology Unit, with the following responsibilities:

  • Planning, performing, and interpreting epidemiological and statistical analyses
  • Using major statistical programs for data storage, manipulation, analysis and
    generation of figures and tables
  • Preparing and presenting study results for scholarly dissemination at professional
    meetings and in peer-reviewed publications
  • Supporting project execution, particularly those aspects necessary to ensure
    high-quality data collection
  • Writing technical and progress reports
  • Initiating, developing, and collaborating in the preparation of research proposals
    and grant applications for future work, with a particular emphasis on study design
  • Mentoring other team members in epidemiological thinking, data analysis, and
    scientific communication
  • Periodically participating in supporting educational activities
  • Collaborating with the National Malaria Control Program of Cambodia and with
    other research units from Institute Pasteur of Cambodia (particularly the Malaria
    Molecular Epidemiology Unit)
  • Completing other work as needed

Profil recherché

Compétences/qualités nécessaires :

Knowledge of statistical analysis, epidemiology, and study design. Proficiency with statistical software packages such as STATA and/or R. Communication skills and fluency in Medical English are essential

Diplôme(s) et expériences demandées :

A doctoral-level degree in epidemiology with a focus on clinical settings.

Minimum Experience: 4+ years of experience in epidemiology. The time spent working towards the PhD may count towards these four years. Experience working as a healthcare provider or in community-level public health, especially in lower- or middleincome country settings, is an advantage.

Capacités physiques et environnement de travail :

Requires long periods of sitting and standing and working at a computer. Occasional travel to rural areas of Cambodia.
Overnight stays in resource-limited sites (forest environments) may be involved.
