Postdoctoral Opportunity
Infections and Cancer Epidemiology Group
Global Health Economics
MISSIONS
A postdoctoral opportunity is available for a scientist in Global Health Economics in the “Infections and Cancer Epidemiology” Group of the International Agency for Research on Cancer. The selected candidate will contribute to various cancer control research studies in low- and middle-income countries, primarily focused on the prevention of infection-associated cancers, in particular (but not exclusively) cervical cancer.
IARC is coordinating a wide range of field studies to assess the efficacy and population-level impact of preventive measures, such as vaccination, screening, and early detection procedures in several countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Data obtained from these studies are also used to inform advanced biostatistical and mathematical predictive models. The results of predictive modelling are then combined with local costing data to perform context-specific health-economic assessments. Ultimately, medical, operational, and economic findings are used to design and evaluate national and sub-national cancer control programmes.
The selected candidate will interact closely with Dr Iacopo Baussano, other IARC scientists, and with the teams in low- and middle-income countries. The current postdoctoral opportunity will involve analyses and drafting of manuscripts based on data from the above-mentioned studies and settings, e.g. on performance of vaccine, screening and early detection procedures as well as health-gains and costs associated with the different procedures.
The candidate will also be involved in fieldwork co-ordination, travel when permitting, grant writing and reporting to funders.
The opportunity is initially for a period of 12 months, renewable subject to availability of funding. The current IARC postdoctoral stipend is € 2,820 per month. The cost of travel, and in certain circumstances for dependents, will be met, a dependent’s allowance paid, and health insurance covered. Applications from women and from nationals from low and middle income countries are particularly encouraged.
Postdoctoral scientists at IARC have access to a wide spectrum of scientific disciplines and to a unique network of collaborators across the world. IARC welcomes around 40 postdoctoral scientists, at any one time, distributed across its sixteen research groups. For more information about postdoctoral stays at IARC, please read the Postdoctoral charter here.
